AH, a SUNFISH What a terrible boat ! It can't point into the wind for shyt because of that horrible sail, not aerodynamic at all Pounds like crazy with that flat bottom RUN from these things, buy yourself a REAL SAILING BOAT - a LASER, it will sail circles around this crappy boat !

Boats can be hard cheap with some hard work. It's the slip/mooring, winter storage, maintenance etc. that will add up.

I've learned more with these than almost any other series out there.

I just found this channel today, and have been binge watching since. I've seen drawings of Mystics, and thought they were very pretty, but seeing her with red sails is just beyond gorgeous. Absolutely stunning.

Muriatic acid is nasty stuff! Do like Bill Clinton and don't inhale. Maybe try oxalic acid for cleaning fiberglass instead. It's a great hull cleaner. The product Starbrite has it and it works well. Good for showers too. Used to find it at walmart. That suitcase is kick ass. Be cool if he paints the boat exactly like that.

I can see why they added the extra ton of ballast. I was talking to some guy who crossing Atlantic flipped H40 and it did not come back up. I should have got some more details from the guy, having heard of the incident, a freighter came by and crained the boat up on deck.

I raced these competitively for years from age 12 - 18 and I can't look at one now without feeling anxiety. I know racing isn't just pleasure sailing, but I had so so many close calls, and near death experiences, near drownings, turtles with tangled sheetlines, spar hits when jibing, etc., that I will never get in one ever again.

Before going the varnish route: you might check out SEMCO penetrating oil! You do not need to sand between applications and the teak remains looking like freshly sanded teak! I think it lookas gorgeous - and more time for sailing!

Catalina 25 ??? I don't think so. Currently we have an Endeavor 32 for sale in Milwaukee for about $7,000. and it has a working inboard diesel.

Good luck, Dustin. We own a 1966 Bristol 27 since 1991. We love the boat and made a few mods to improve it, but in keeping with its vintage. I just discovered a rotten section of that same stern bulkhead just last week. I'll cut out the rotten bit and glass in the hole using epoxy resin and chopped strand mat. Our outboard well brackets are made of stainless steel with a solid teak mounting board for the outboard. It's rock solid. We also looked at the Cape Dory, but it didn't have standing room in the main cabin for serious cruising and living aboard. We are on the hard this year for a full refit of standing rig and new sails for next season.

I have just enjoyed my favorite video from your show. Walter is a gem, "to every problem is a common sense solution". My life long belief exactly!! I am selling everything at 60 to go sailing everywhere but have no sailing experience. My common sense solution is to go to sailing school before shopping for a boat. Fix and prepare that boat and do simple sailing for a few years before ever considering an ocean passage. Me and the Caribbean will become good friends I hope. Cheers from Florida and 40 years salt water fishing has given me a clue to some common sense on the water as did 3 Navy crossings to the Mediterranean while in the Marine Corps. Semper Fi and safe sailing. Thank you Walter for your clear and concise personality. Very much welcome here!
